Patrick spent 20 years in the military. He served 2 tours in Bosnia, 2 tours in Iraq. He was awarded 2 Bronze Stars, Purple Heart. Patrick tragically died in a motorcycle accident.

The DOD announced the deaths of Staff Sgt. Christopher M. Ward, of Oak Ridge, TN and Civilian Contractor, Hyun K Shin of Hesperia, CA, died April 6, 2013 who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom.

The DOD announced the deaths of four airmen who were supporting Operation Enduring Freedom, Capt. Brandon L. Cyr, Capt. Reid K. Nishizuka, SSgt. Daniel N. Fannin & SSgt. Richard A. Dickson They died April 27, near Kandahar Airfield, Afghanistan, in the crash of an MC-12 aircraft. The crash is under investigation.
